19 Museums, Something New Everyday!

The Museum Experience

The Museum Experience is Houston's newest cultural block party! The Museum Experience features four walkable “zones” to help visitors navigate through the area and learn more about all 19 museums in a more personal way. On the last Saturday of January, April, July and September, each zone will showcase a handful of museums at a time, complete with special programming, pedicabs in select zones and food trucks. Create your own Museum Experience with the Houston Museum District.

  • Zone 1, January 31, 2015: The Menil Collection (Cy Twombly, Richmond Hall), Rothko Chapel, Houston Center for Photography
  • Zone 2, April 25, 2015: Holocaust Museum Houston, Asia Society Texas Center, Czech Center Museum Houston, Lawndale Art Center, Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, DiverseWorks
  • Zone 3, July 25, 2015: The Jung Center of Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston
  • Zone 4, September 26, 2015: Children’s Museum of Houston, The Health Museum, Houston Museum of Natural Science, Houston Zoo, Rice University Art Gallery

The other museums in the District will be open even when their zone isn’t featured. The Museum Experience events will happen during normal museum hours giving visitors ample time to explore without feeling rushed to make it to the next program. Visitors can simply walk or bike from one museum to the next venue in that quadrant.

All four events won’t be entirely free however. Ticketed museums will be charging admission fees unless otherwise stated. Visitors should note that eleven of the museums are free every day and the other eight offer free times once a week or once a month.
